I have been super busy and haven't posted in a while. Here is a happy yarn post. Look at those colors! This was one of my most successful dying attempts just using Wilton Cake coloring and sock yarn blanks from Knit Picks. This yarn came out great. Still trying to figure out the formula recording so I can duplicate.
Umm, dying yarn is the most satisfying thing ever! I've been intimidated by it, then one day knitpicks had a book sale.... and then a few days later a dying book and some bare yarn showed up at my house.
Here's the result of my first attempt! It went rather well. I used vinegar and Wilton cake coloring, worked like a charm. So, much easier than I ever expected. Will post some follow up pictures of the finished hat that I am knitting as a tester with this yarn. So far I think it will be a beauty.
My first attempts are purely tests. My next step is to figure out how to formulate consistent color ways and dyes to make more runs, rather than just one or two skeins of completely unique yarn.
I'm pretty sure I may have found my calling.
I haven't posted in a while. Been preoccupied and busy with lots of other things. Exciting things and here's a peek!
So, what's new? I've been working on some block prints to do small runs of fabric for some small sewing projects, using my sketch book flowers. I have also been working on getting some of my artwork copyrights. Something I keep putting off and finally just went for it.
Another exciting project, dying yarn! I've been practicing and I'm working towards a new shop with hand dyed yarns and incorporating hand printed fat quarters/possibly some pouches for knitting supplies. I'm feeling ambitious, I really want to do something with my arts and my crafts. My goal right now is to get a small run ready for a local craft fair or a group of products to try to sell locally.
Something to to look forward too :) Next post some pictures of my yarn dying success!
