What better for minus 13 degree weather than a comfy cozy sweater... Here's how to turn an old shrunken wool sweater into fashionable pet apparel.
This is pretty easy and requires hardly any sewing. I used an old wool sweater that accidentally shrunk in the wash. Since the sweater shrunk and basically felted in the wash, the yarn does not run when cut so you do not really need to finish any of the cut edges.
Step 1: Cut off the sleeves at the desired length. Lou has short little beagle legs so I cut off most of the sleeve, I left only a few inches.
Step 2: On the back side of the sweater (which will be the front for the dog) cut out a triangle. Base of the triangle starts at the hem, the point ends level with the bottom of the armholes.
Step 3: Turn the sweater inside out sew the edges of the triangle together (A & B as shown in image) with a 1/4" seam. Turn right side out and voila you have a sweater for your furry friend. I put the sweater on my pup so that the side with the seam was under her belly, this give adequate room for the dog's chest. The front of the sweater would actually be the back.
